Match Preview

It has been an excellent start to life in the MLS for San Diego FC, and they already appear to be one of the outstanding chances for playoff success in the Western Conference. The team has won 13 of their 22 matches this season, and they currently sit two points clear at the summit. Confidence levels should be high after a recent 2-1 away victory against Chicago.

Despite their impressive position in the standings, San Diego have only won 55% of their home matches, compared to 64% on the road. But, they have still been an incredibly efficient attacking side in home matches, scoring two efforts per 90. It is also worth considering that they have kept clean sheets in 55% of their home fixtures.

It has been largely a forgettable campaign for Toronto FC in 2025, as they sit second bottom in the Eastern Conference standings after winning just four of their 21 matches. They come into this round after going two without a win, with their latest outing ending in a home draw against Atlanta United.

Toronto has actually performed better on the road this season, winning 25% of their matches compared to the 15% that have been recorded at BMO Field. The Canadian team have scored an average of 1.75 efforts per 90 in away matches this season, but it would be a concern that they have kept clean sheets in just 13% of the fixtures played on the road.

Head-to-Head Record

This week’s clash between San Diego and Toronto FC will be the first meeting between the teams in the MLS.

San Diego vs. Toronto Picks

Toronto have saved some of their best performances for away matches this season, but this will be a tough challenge against one of the standout teams in the Western Conference. For that reason, we find it challenging to overlook the prospect of a home victory in California.
