Match Preview

There will be slight pressure on Man City coming into this round of Premier League matches, as the reigning champions have dropped to third in the standings after being held to draws in each of their last three. City’s most recent tie came in a thrilling 3-3 result against Tottenham, but they have now allowed eight goals in their last three matches.

Aston Villa continue to defy expectations in the Premier League this term, as the Midlands side sits fourth in the standings after 14 rounds of matches. Unai Emery’s side were held to a draw against Bournemouth in their previous match, but they have still lost just once in their previous five matches.

Man City’s excellent record in this fixture is the obvious starting point this week, as they have gone 13 without defeat against Aston Villa, and they have scored at least once in 17 of the last 18 Premier League clashes with the Midlands side. Their only shutout came in the form of a 0-0 draw at Villa Park in November 2015.

Villa’s midweek record is also very poor, as they have landed maximum points in just one of their last 12 league matches on a Wednesday. Meanwhile, City have a contrasting record in midweek, as they have landed victories in 25 of their last 26 matches that they have played on a Wednesday.

Aston Villa vs Man City Prediction

This will be a huge test for Villa on Wednesday, but it could be worthwhile to side with the home team. City will be without a number of influential stars, including Rodri and Jack Grealish, meaning the safest play could be on Villa or the draw in the Double Chance market.
