Match Preview

Things appear to be clicking into gear for Pep Guardiola’s Man City at this stage of the season, as the champions are set to welcome back Erling Haaland in midweek. City sit just five points off Liverpool at the top of the standings, but they have an important game in hand over the side at the summit. It could be a daunting sight for the sides in the competition that City have won each of their last three since returning from the FIFA Club World Cup.

There were signs of the champions being back to their best on January 13, as they landed a dramatic 3-2 win on the road against Newcastle. Kevin De Bruyne came off the bench to net the equalizer, before setting up the winner for Oscar Bobb in the first minute of injury time.

Burnley will be a huge price to claim victory at the Etihad this weekend, as they have recorded just three wins in 21 matches so far this term. They also come into this showdown against the champions in poor form after going three without a win. Two defeats have been suffered during that period, and they could only play out a draw with Luton in their last league fixture.

The Clarets look set for a difficult challenge to remain in the Premier League, as they are already five points from safety. Vincent Kompany will be hopeful of a positive return to his former club this week, but the best case scenario could see the Clarets lose by two or three goals in order to salvage their goal difference.

Man City vs Burnley Prediction

City have won 17 of their last 19 matches against the Clarets across all competitions, which includes a 6-0 home success in the FA Cup last term. We fully expect City to land a big-scoring win on Tuesday.
