Match Preview
Man City’s treble-winners made the perfect start to their Premier League defense in the opening match of the season, as they cruised to maximum points against Burnley last Friday. Erling Haaland picked up from where he left off by netting twice against the newly promoted side. They are the clear favorites in the betting to continue their perfect start to the season.
City boasts an excellent record in this fixture, as they have lost once in 31 Premier League fixtures against the Magpies. The only loss was a 2-1 defeat away from home in January 2019. At home, City have won each of their last 14 against Newcastle, scoring an incredible 48 goals over that period and conceding just seven. However, City are set to be without influential midfielder Kevin De Bruyne for the next four months.

Newcastle couldn’t have dreamt of a better start to the new season, as they smashed big-spending Aston Villa 5-1 at St. James’s Park. Alexander Isak scored twice in that win, while Sandro Tonali was incredibly impressive on his Premier League debut. However, building on that big win will be the huge challenge ahead of the Magpies this weekend.
Their record at City is important to consider, as they have failed to win in 18 Premier League visits to the Etihad. Their most recent away win in this fixture was recorded back in September 2000, as the Magpies registered a victory at Maine Road. But, this is a much different Newcastle team than the ones that have been overpowered in the past.
Man City vs Newcastle Prediction
Man City are the commanding favorites, but there is certainly reason to take them on this weekend. Newcastle were mightily impressive in their opening match, and their powerful midfielder could be a difference-maker at the Etihad. Therefore, we will be siding with a draw in Manchester on Saturday.
