Match Preview

In truth, Germany was slightly overlooked in the outright betting for World Cup success this summer, as many read too much into their warm-up loss against Zambia. However, it is often challenging to rule out the team at major tournaments, as Germany chase a third World Cup honor. They certainly appeared to be a nation with a point to prove in their opening match at the competition.

One player with more to prove than most is Alexandra Popp, as the striker was forced to sit out last summer’s EURO final due to injury. She immediately laid down her marker for the tournament ahead on Monday, as she netted twice in the opening 40 minutes against Morocco. Further efforts were added in the second half by Klara Buhl and Lea Schuller.

However, Germany will face a more challenging fixture this weekend, as Colombia will be looking to back up their win on matchday one. Last summer’s Copa America runners-up will be bidding to reach the round of 16 at the Women’s World Cup for just the second time, after achieving that feat in 2015.

The South American nation looked very strong in their opening match in the group against South Korea, as they comfortably claimed a 2-0 win. Both efforts were netted in the opening 40 minutes, with Catalina Usme opening the scoring for Colombia, before Lina Caicedo doubled their advantage five minutes before the break.

Germany vs Colombia Prediction

Germany looked menacingly good in their opening match at the Women’s World Cup on Monday. We expect them to face few issues in landing a second straight success on Sunday, and the best value in the betting could be found in the spread market.
