Match Preview
We flagged up Spain as our leading contender for World Cup glory before the tournament got underway, and the nation was extremely impressive in the opening round of matches at the competition. The European nation didn’t break a sweat in securing maximum points in their opening match, as they cruised to a 3-0 win over Costa Rica on Friday.
All the damage was done in the opening half, with Altana Bonmati Conca and Esther Gonzalez both finding the net. Spain recorded a staggering 46 shots in that opening match in Group C, but only 12 of their efforts hit the target. They will likely need to be more clinical in front of goal as the tournament progresses, but the initial signs were incredibly encouraging.

The pressure will be on Zambia on Wednesday, as they could be eliminated from the competition in just their second match. They were outclassed in their opening match in Group C, as they were easily beaten 5-0 by Japan. Zambia defended well throughout the first half, but they had no response after falling 1-0 behind on the stroke of half time.
In truth, they couldn’t lay a glove on the impressive Japanese, as they failed to register a single shot. This will only be the second time that Spain has come up against an African nation, but they were excellent 3-1 winners against South Africa in the previous edition of the World Cup.
Spain vs Zambia Prediction
This should be one of the most straightforward matches to call at the Women’s World Cup this week. Spain was excellent in their opening match, and we fully expect them to land another dominant success to book their spot in the next round of the competition.
