Event Preview
One of the biggest events on the darts schedule is set for the next seven days, as the World Matchplay gets underway in Blackpool. The event has been one of the most popular on the schedule since its introduction in 1994, and Phil Taylor holds the record for the most victories with 16.
However, the two big guns in the world of darts will be on a collision course this year, as Luke Littler and Luke Humphries dominate the betting. Humphries will be chasing a second World Matchplay title, and he could become just the fourth multiple-time winner of the Triple Crown event.

The World Matchplay title is one of the few events that has gotten away from Littler since he emerged on the darts scene in the winter of 2023. Littler could only reach the Last 32 at the competition last year, but he is already riding high in 2025 following wins at the World Championship and UK Open.
Gerwyn Price is one of the undervalued selections in the betting this year, as he bids to reach a second final. The Welshman has been in reliable recent form, reflected by his recent success at the Baltic Sea Darts Open.
The World Matchplay format of darts also really suits Michael van Gerwen. He has recorded three previous victories in the competition, with his latest victory coming back in 2022. However, his victories on the PDC Premier schedule have dried up since the end of 2023.
World Matchplay Picks
Littler and Humphries will both be difficult to beat at the World Matchplay this year. However, at the prices, it could be worth taking a chance on Josh Rock.
Rock has reached at least the Last 32 stage in each of the three previous editions of the event, and his form is strong after reaching the Last 16 at the Masters.
