Game Preview
Canada have been the red-hot favorites for Winter Olympic gold since the start of the competition, as Jon Cooper bids to guide the nation to a first top prize since 2014.
The nation still have a 100% record, but they were made to work incredibly hard to maintain their hunt for gold on Wednesday after requiring a period of overtime to overcome a spirited Czechia. Mitch Marner was ultimately the match-winner, scoring the crucial goal on a tense afternoon in Milan.
Macklin Celebrini has been one of the standout performers for Canada, and his red-hot form continued after netting twice in the win. However, the fitness of star man Sidney Crosby is a concern, with the experienced star likely to miss the rest of the competition.
Finland shouldn’t be overlooked on Friday, and it is worth remembering that they are the reigning Olympic champions. In fact, the Finns have won at least bronze in four of the last five editions of the competition.
Their character was also tested in the quarterfinals, as they needed two goals in the final frame to produce a memorable comeback against Switzerland. Not for the first time, Antti Pennanen was the man for the big occasion, scoring the crucial winner in the extra period.
Canada vs. Finland Picks
All eyes will be on Canada on Friday, as they bid to set up a mouth-watering clash with the USA. The depth within the Canadian roster could once again prove crucial, meaning that Cooper’s side are preferred to overcome a tricky assignment against the reigning Olympic champions.
