Game Preview

The pressure will increase on teams in the men’s Winter Olympics competition this week, as the important second round of games will be staged. Sweden made a dream start to the competition, as they dominated Olympic hosts Italy in Milan.

Sweden’s dominance was reflected by the fact that they outshot their rivals 60-22. Experience ultimately told in Milan, as Gabriel Landeskog and Gustav Forsling scored goals to give the Swedes a 2-1 advantage.

William Nylander netted the crucial goal to restore Sweden’s advantage, before final period efforts from Mika Zibanejad and Victor Hedman made sure of the win.

It could be argued that the bigger pressure on Friday will be on Finland, who underperformed on opening night, as they were shockingly beaten by Slovakia.

Finland endured defensive issues throughout the game, conceding once in the opening frame, before allowing three more goals in the final period of the 4-1 loss.

A defeat on Friday would be damaging to their chances of automatic progression to the next round, while Slovakia could seize control of the second-spot in the group with a win over Italy.

Finland vs. Sweden Picks

Despite having a scare on opening night, Sweden’s class was ultimately the difference. They should be capable of producing a more professional display on Friday, and we expect them to maintain their healthy Olympic record against Finland.
