Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Leading Contenders
England
England will be the red-hot favorites for the Women’s World Cup this summer, as John Mitchell’s side bid to make their home advantage count. The Red Roses have reached the final in each of the last six editions, but their only victory was recorded back in 2014.
However, the top-ranked nation have been in excellent form throughout this calendar year, and were excellent earlier this year when winning the Grand Slam title in the Six Nations.
New Zealand
New Zealand have been the dominant force in the Women’s Rugby World Cup, winning each of the last two editions, and claiming six titles since the 1998 edition.
However, it has been a period of transition for Allan Bunting’s team, and that has seen them slip to third in the world rankings. Performances over the last 12 months have been strong, but they have been held to a draw by Canada, and lost successive internationals against England.

Rachel Johnson oversees the USA team this summer, but attention will be on building a team that can compete at the nation’s home edition of the World Cup in 2033.
The USA had been one of the dominant women’s teams across the early editions of the competition, winning the inaugural World Cup in 1991, before reaching the next two finals. However, they currently sit ninth in the world rankings, and have suffered defeats in five of their six warm-up matches.
