Sabalenka has been excellent on the Tour this year, but she is yet to win a Grand Slam title in 2025, losing in two finals and reaching the final four at Wimbledon.
However, she has looked like a player possessed at Flushing Meadows so far this year. Sabalenka has overcome her previous two opponents in straight sets, which included a battling display against Polina Kudermetova in round two on Wednesday.

Leylah Fernandez is no stranger to surprise results, notably reaching the final of the US Open back in 2021. The Canadian has continued to play at a high level this year, and she has risen to 33rd in the world rankings. The 22-year-old battled through in the previous round, dropping the first set against Else Jacquemot before ultimately winning decisively. However, she can ill-afford a slow start this week against the world number one.
