Donna Vekic is a talented opponent this week, and it would be unwise to overlook her chances. The Croatian is a four-time winner on the WTA Tour, and she was ranked as high as 17th in the world earlier this calendar year. She has a game that has a proven record on hard surfaces, reaching the last eight of both the Australian Open and US Open since the start of 2019.
However, Vekic’s recent form would raise questions, as she suffered early exits at the Monterrey Open and Cincinnati Masters. Despite that, she battled to victory in the opening round of the US Open earlier this week, coming through a three-set thriller against Jessica Maneiro.
