The second round action at Wimbledon gets underway on Wednesday, and there will be some fascinating clashes to look forward to. Among those will include Elise Mertens coming up against American prospect Ann Li. Mertens cruised through to the second round after easily beating Linda Fruhvitova in straight sets.
The Belgian star registered four aces, and won an excellent 79% of the points on her first serve. She also restricted her first round opponent to just five break point opportunities. But, it would be a concern that Mertens has suffered second round exits at Wimbledon in each of the last two years.

Ann Li could be a value play in the betting for this second-round showdown. The American was at her professional best in the opening round, as she battled to a three-set win against Viktorija Golubic. Li hit five aces in the success, and won an impressive 74% of the points on her first serve.
The 25-year-old has already shown her quality on the grass during her career after winning the Girls’ Singles final at Wimbledon in 2017. But, making the grade at the professional level has been testing, as she is making only her second appearance in the second round, ending a two-year drought without a main draw showing.

This will be the second meeting between Li and Mertens this calendar year. Mertens was dominant in the previous encounter, winning in straight sets at the WTA Singapore event in February.
