The Open Picks: 5 Players That Will Make The Cut
The eyes of the golfing world will be on Royal Birkdale this weekend, as the final major of 2026 will be staged. The British Open Championship is the oldest event on the calendar, and many of the top stars on the PGA Tour will have their sights on one of the most prestigious honors in the sport in the United Kingdom. But who are the five players that will make the cut when making picks on The Open this year?
The Open Picks: To Make The Cut
Ben Griffin (-120)
Ben Griffin looks like one of the best value plays when making picks on The Open this weekend. The American has made the cut in 16 of his 20 starts this season, which includes four finishes inside the top ten of PGA Tour events. His consistency has continued in recent months, taking T17 at the U.S. Open, T10 at the Travelers Championship, and T21 at the John Deere Classic.
Harry Hall (-120)
This weekend could present Harry Hall with the perfect opportunity to avoid missing the cut in all majors this season. The Englishman achieved a career-best T28 at The Open last year, and his form on the PGA Tour in 2026 has largely been consistent. Hall has made the cut in eleven of his 19 starts, achieving five top-25 finishes. He has finished in the money in three of his last five attempts, including a T29 at the Memorial Tournament.

Max Homa (+100)
Max Homa has bounced back to his best form in recent weeks, making the cut in each of the last four. That includes a season-best second-place finish at the John Deere Classic. Homa has made the cut in three of his previous four appearances at The Open, which includes a career-best T10 in 2023. Has already shown his major prowess this year with a T9 at The Masters.
Matthew Southgate (+200)
Matthew Southgate is already a winner on the DP World Tour this season, having landed the Swiss Challenge in June. The Englishman has regularly made the cut on the European Tour throughout this season. Most interesting is the fact that his best-ever showing at a major came at Royal Birkdale, finishing in T6 in 2017.
Sahith Theegala (+180)
It has been a frustrating season for Sahith Theegala, but the American has still made the cut in 20 of his 21 starts. He has racked up four top-tens and nine top-25 finishes. His excellent ability was evident at the U.S. Open earlier this year, finishing T11. His record at The Open is concerning after failing to make the cut on his last three attempts, but his recent form suggests that he is good value to end that hoodoo.
