Event Preview

The final event of the 2025-26 PGA Tour season is set for East Lake Golf Club this weekend, as the TOUR Championship is staged. The best-ranked players on the Tour will be in action, with a total distance of 7,346 yards covered by the field this weekend. It is a hugely lucrative event on the PGA Tour, with the field competing for their share of the $40 million purse.

Scottie Scheffler will be a well-supported favorite this weekend, as he bids to build on his recent victory in the St. Jude Championship. The American faded in the recent BMW Championship, eventually finishing outside of the top ten. However, his consistency throughout the campaign should be respected, having made the cut in all but one of his appearances.

Rory McIlroy was back to his very best last weekend, finishing a solo third at the BMW Championship. McIlroy’s record in this final event of the season ensures that he merits respect this weekend, as the Northern Irishman is a three-time winner of the TOUR Championship.

However, the trends appear to favor those who have already won on the FedEx Cup schedule. Nine of the last 13 winners have won multiple events in the playoffs, indicating that recent victors such as Wyndham Clark and Scheffler will be among the top contenders. The former was an excellent recent winner of the BMW Championship, holding off the late-surging Patrick Cantlay.

The trends also make for worrying reading for Tommy Fleetwood. Defending champions at the TOUR Championship have an extremely weak record, with just two holders being able to successfully defend the title at the end of the season.

TOUR Championship Picks

There could be value in taking a chance on Patrick Cantlay this weekend. He was an excellent runner-up at the recent BMW Championship, and he has now finished in the top 12 in his previous three appearances. Cantlay also boasts an excellent record at this weekend’s course, winning the Tour Championship in 2021 and finishing a close second behind Tommy Fleetwood last year.
