Golden Tempo Odds: Derby Champ Favored for Travers Stakes
History was made earlier this year, as Golden Tempo became the Kentucky Derby champion. In doing so, it marked the first time that a female trainer had won the prestigious opening leg of the Triple Crown.
His spot as the top three-year-old in North America was confirmed at Saratoga in June, as the Curlin colt landed the honors in the Belmont Stakes.
But, bigger targets will await the Cherie DeVaux-trained superstar, beginning with next month’s Travers Stakes and ultimately leading to the Breeders’ Cup in October. Find the latest Golden Tempo odds for the upcoming races here.
Golden Tempo Favored in Travers Stakes Odds
DeVaux will be chasing further history this summer, as the trainer could become the first female trainer to win the Travers Stakes since Jena Antonucci in 2023. The Golden Tempo odds currently see the Derby hero head the betting at +165.
He will be well-rested following his dominant one-length win in the Belmont Stakes in June, with a number of horses beaten on that day likely to re-oppose. Commandment and Renegade will almost certainly take their chance at Saratoga, while Ocelli is still under consideration.
Preakness winner Napoleon Solo bypassed the Belmont Stakes and could be the most likely danger to Golden Tempo at the odds after finishing an impressive second in the G1 Haskell Stakes last weekend.
However, the Derby winner may need the run after DeVaux was forced to bypass the G2 Jim Dandy at the start of August due to Golden Tempo suffering a slight setback.
But, the Curlin colt arrived at Saratoga earlier this week looking a picture of health ahead of the Midsummer Derby on August 29.

Golden Tempo Overlooked in Breeders’ Cup Classic Odds
It is undeniable at this stage that Golden Tempo has been the standout three-year-old in North America, with his wins in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes only showcasing his dominance.
However, his championship credentials will be tested to new limits later this season, as the DeVaux runner will be thrown into open company to compete in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. It remains to be seen how talented this year’s crop of three-year-olds really are, and Keeneland later this year could give us a definitive answer.
At present, the Golden Tempo odds for the Classic see him priced up at +900, making him the seventh favorite. Steven Asmussen-trained Magnitude is narrowly preferred at the top of the betting after an impressive win in the G1 Stephen Foster Stakes.
The Not This Time colt also holds a form edge on Forever Young, but the Japanese raider should be respected as the defending champion. Last year’s Derby winner Sovereignty and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile champion Nysos also add to a very competitive betting heat.
