Goodwood Cup: Betting Preview
The feature on Day One of Glorious Goodwood is one of the premier events for long-distance stayers, as the G1 Goodwood Cup covers a distance of two miles. It features a rematch of the first two home from last month’s G1 Ascot Gold Cup, with just a head separating Scandinavia and Trawlerman.
The former will be very hard to beat for a yard that has won the last two editions of the Goodwood Cup. Cheekpieces have brought out huge improvement in the four-year-old, as Scandinavia has won his last six starts since being having head gear applied. Holds the form edge over Trawlerman, and the quick turnaround could be more damaging to the chances of the re-opposing eight-year-old.
The remainder of the field are huge prices, indicating that there could be good value. Rahiebb and Amiloc should both still be improving for the Roger Varian and Ralph Beckett yards, respectively. However, both have a bit of improvement to find to get competitive.
Lazy Griff could be the most interesting contender at bigger odds for the Charlie Johnston yard. He placed in both the Epsom and Irish Derbies last season, and bounced back to his very best form over two miles at Sandown last time. Plenty more to come, and he is unexposed over this distance.

This should be very straightforward for Scandinavia, who was very impressive when winning this race 12 months ago. Should be capable of putting a wider margin between himself and Trawlerman, while Lazy Griff could be the value play to take second.
