Nassau Stakes: Betting Preview

Glorious Goodwood continues on Thursday, with Day Three’s feature coming in the form of the G1 Nassau Stakes. A high-quality field of five will go to post for the race, with the winner securing a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf later this season.

Aidan O’Brien has won each of the last two editions of the race, and it is incredibly challenging to overlook Diamond Necklace’s clear credentials. The three-year-old has won on all five career starts, including three straight Group One wins in France. This will be her first start on British turf, but she looks reliable with wins on varying ground and over distances ranging between seven furlongs and a mile and two furlongs.

Botagoz is the only other three-year-old in the field this week. The Roger Varian filly stepped up in trip impressively to win on the all-weather at Newcastle in June, and she still looks capable of further progression now dropped into Group One company for the first time.

Friendly Soul represents the John & Thady Gosden yard, and she is interesting based on her recent third at Royal Ascot. She was a Group One winner back in 2024, and still looks very unexposed despite being five.

See The Fire has been highly tried in Group One company, but she is winless in 13 starts. Andrew Balding’s runner won the G2 Middleton Fillies’ Stakes in May, but it is easy to argue that she is a better horse at York than she is at any other course.

Nassau Stakes Picks

Diamond Necklace will be the banker for many at Glorious Goodwood this week. She is hugely progressive for the dominant yard in Europe, and she gets the weight allowance from her elder rivals. Ticks every box, and she looks set to make a winning debut on British turf following domination in France.
