Preview
San Diego continues to underperform this season, dropping their last two games, and falling to 24-29 on the season. They now sit just a half of a game out of last place in the NL West division, after finishing 2nd with 89 wins last year. The Padres started the year out 19-17, but have gone 5-12 since then, losing 5 of 6 series in the process. They need better play from both their batters and their pitchers to turn it around.
The Marlins swept the Angels in Los Angeles, climbing back into 2nd place in the NL East. They are having another strong start to the season, but need to avoid a similar 2nd-half collapse to the ones they have had over the past couple of seasons. Miami’s Luis Arraez (.376 BA) and Jorge Soler (17 HRs) have been sensational for them. If CY Young winner Sandy Alcantara can return to form, they could be a real threat.
Miami’s Sandy Alcantara (2-5, 4.86 ERA) has been nowhere near the level he performed at last season, but has still managed to flash his brilliance in limited instances. As he’s settled in and the season has progressed, Alcantara has begun to look more under control. He may not be at the CY Young level, but I like his chances of having a good outing against the struggling Padres at home. I’ll take the Marlins to win.
