Match Preview

It hasn’t been the season that we have come to expect from Man City under Pep Guardiola, as the champions have quickly dropped out of contention in the title race this term following a poor run of form.

However, there have been recent signs that City are back on track after winning each of their last two matches. The latest of those was an excellent showing against West Ham when recording a 4-1 win. It would be a concern for the visitors that Erling Haaland has rediscovered his form after netting three in his last two.

Salford will look to give a good account of themselves at the Etihad this weekend, and their league form has been solid this term. Salford have won each of their last four to move up to third in the League Two standings. Defensively, they have been reliable over that sequence, keeping clean sheets in all four matches.

City and Salford will be colliding for the first time in a competitive match this weekend. The hosts have won their last 17 matches against first-time opponents since a shock defeat against Lyon in 2018.

Salford will be coming up against Premier League opposition for the third time. However, they have suffered defeats in each of the last two, conceding seven goals in the process. City haven’t been knocked out in the third round of the FA Cup since losing at home to Man City in 2011-12.

Meanwhile, the Premier League champions have won their last 24 matches against teams from lower divisions since a shock loss at the hands of Wigan in the fifth round of the FA Cup in 2017-18.

Man City vs. Salford Picks

Salford’s recent league form would give them hope of asking questions of City this weekend. However, the depth within the City squad is hard to dismiss when examining the most likely outcome. Therefore, we fully expect Guardiola’s side to make their dominance count and cover the spread on Saturday.
