Smith vs Bivol Prediction and Picks

The king of the light heavyweight division is back. Bivol defends his WBA, WBO, IBF and Ring titles in mid-December, in a mandatory defense against the WBO’s interim champion. He’s been on a roll since the only loss of his career. After dropping a majority decision to Artur Beterbiev in October 2024, he won the rematch in February 2025 to become undisputed champion, taking the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and Ring belts.

He followed that up in May with a dominant unanimous decision over Michael Eifert. Few fighters in the world control a fight like Bivol does, and his record shows it, with 13 of his 25 wins going to the scorecards.

Smith is a serious opponent. The Liverpool fighter is a former WBA and Ring super middleweight champion, and as an amateur he won silver at welterweight at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. His only two losses have come against two of the best fighters of his generation: he took Canelo Alvarez the distance in December 2020, then was stopped in the seventh round by Beterbiev in January 2024.

He bounced back fast after the Beterbiev fight, stopping Carlos Galvan inside five rounds and then beating Joshua Buatsi on a unanimous decision in February 2025 to win the WBO interim light heavyweight title. He’ll also have a three-inch height advantage and six inches of reach.

How We’re Betting Smith vs Bivol

Smith has proven he belongs at the top level, but in both of his biggest fights he came up short. Bivol is a level above anything Smith has beaten. His ring IQ, footwork and jab let him take a fight away from opponents round by round, and we expect him to outbox Smith comfortably over 12 rounds.

At -900, Bivol is our best bet on the odds available right now. But that’s $900 to win $100, so it works much better as a parlay leg than as a straight bet. The value is likely to come in the method of victory market. With Bivol winning so many of his fights on the cards and Smith tough enough to last the distance with Canelo, Bivol by decision should pay a lot more than the moneyline. We’ll update this page with those prices and our final pick as soon as BetOnline posts them.
