The defending champions played 1-1 with Kansas City in the previous round of the 2023 MLS, which came as a bit of a surprise. Cherundolo’s boys were far superior to their opponents, creating almost two times as many goal chances. However, only one went in – and it was the work of the league’s scoring leader, Denis Bouanga.

Actually, Los Angeles FC scored another goal in the 85^th minute, but it was disallowed for offside. One can argue that luck wasn’t on their side that evening, but on Saturday, they mustn’t rely on luck. If they want to beat San Jose Earthquakes, they need to take things even more seriously.

It’s all really in their hands. LAFC players are much better than those of San Jose, meaning that if they play well, they’re going to win. The Quakes are flying surprisingly high at the moment (No.5 in the West), but they really aren’t a great team.

Last season, they finished bottom of the conference table, mainly due to their horrible performances on the road. Their away record was 1-5-11 with a scoring differential of 21-42. Los Angeles FC is a team that’s incredibly good at home. The Black and Gold are undefeated this season with four wins and one draw, which happened in the previous round. They sure can’t go winless two times in a row at BMO Stadium, right?
