Event Preview

It was a dramatic weekend in Monaco last time out, as rain at the end of the race threw fresh doubt into the finishing order. However, Max Verstappen continued to thrive, as he finished over 27 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso. Alonso would likely have asked questions of his team after the race, as Aston Martin made the questionable decision to overlook a switch onto inters when the rain began to fall, meaning that the Spaniard stopped again just a lap later.

It would have been interesting to see how much closer Alonso would have been should the team have made a different call. Monaco was a standout race for Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, who took an excellent third overall, finishing three seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton.

Of course, this weekend will be completely different, as we return to a traditional circuit in Barcelona. A total distance of 307.104km will be covered, which is made up of 66 laps in total. There are two DRS zones available for overtaking. Max Verstappen claimed victory last weekend, with Sergio Perez taking second and George Russell finishing in third.

It may be challenging to overlook Verstappen once again this weekend, as he has already claimed four wins from six races this season. However, Sergio Perez will be chasing victory, as he bids to cut the Dutchman’s 39-point advantage at the top of the Drivers’ standings.

Spanish Grand Prix Prediction

Verstappen is the standout contender once again this weekend, as the Red Bull dominance looks set to continue. However, we could see a Mercedes resurgence this weekend, as their upgrades looked to have made them more competitive in Monaco last time out. Therefore, a chance will be taken on Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finishing on the podium.
