The Canadian Open forms the final event on the PGA Tour before the third major of the season. This event has been staged since 1904, with the only exceptions coming during the two World Wars, and the COVID-impacted year. It is the third oldest annual event on the PGA Tour, and it boasts a purse of $9 million.

Players will compete across 7,079 yards at Oakdale Country Club, with the event being a par 70. The aggregate record score is held by Rory McIlroy, who finished with a total of 258 when winning the event in 2019. Meanwhile, the par record is held by Johnny Palmer, who finished 25-under in 1952.

McIlroy appears the obvious contender this weekend, as he has won each of the previous two editions of the event. Last year, he won by two strokes from Tony Finau, but it is worth mentioning that this year’s edition will be played at Oakdale for the first time.

Shane Lowry could be a solid value selection this weekend, as he looks to build momentum after a stuttering start to the season. The former major winner finished second in this event back in 2019, and he could be set for a big weekend across a course that should suit his playing style. Tyrrell Hatton and Matt Fitzpatrick are other players of interest this weekend after impressing throughout the Memorial Tournament last weekend.

Canadian Open Prediction

McIlroy is short enough in the betting to avoid this weekend, especially considering the competitive nature of the Canadian Open. Therefore, chances will be taken on Fitzpatrick, who looked back to somewhere near his best last weekend, and an outside bet on Nicolai Hojgaard. The Dane may have been cut at the Memorial Tournament, but he impressed at the PGA Championship, and finished in a tie for fifth in a competitive Italian Open after going six-under in the final round.
