MLS Preview: Toronto FC vs. St. Louis City Prediction, Odds, and Picks (Jul 8)

• Toronto’s biggest star Fernando Bernardeschi joins the list of unavailable players for Saturday’s game.

Toronto FC sacked Bob Bradly from the position of the head coach in late June, appointing the under-17 academy coach Terry Dunfield as the interim manager. However, that hasn’t helped much – “The Reds” are 0-0-2 with him in charge, with a score difference of 0-5.

The worst thing is that their schedule looks very ugly, with their next opponent being St. Louis City, the team with the most points in the Western Conference of the 2023 MLS.

Not only is Toronto FC without a full-time coach, but there are some serious problems in the locker room. One of this team’s best midfielders, Michael Bradley, is out with an injury, with rumors that he doesn’t want to return as he’s having a beef with the club management – he can’t get over the fact that they fired his dad.

In addition to Bradley, there are a few more players on the injury list, while Toronto’s arguably biggest star Fernando Bernardeschi will miss the July 8 game for suspension (he got red-carded in the previous game).

As if all that wasn’t enough, Toronto’s first-choice goalkeeper Sean Johnson is away with the USMNT at the 2023 Gold Cup. He’s been their standout player in 2023, but he’s missed the last four MLS games due to national team duties. Greg Ranjitsingh was put between the sticks, but he did not impress, to put it mildly. He conceded a total of 10 goals in those four games.

The bad news for him and his teammates is that we might see that number go way higher this weekend. It’s because Toronto’s next opponent is St. Louis City, one of the best teams in the 2023 MLS. The boys from Missouri have scored 39 goals so far (in 20 MLS games), which accounts for 1.95 goals per game on average.
