Each team played only two group games in the 2023 Leagues Cup, losing each time, and failing to qualify for the knockout phase of the tournament. What this practically means is that neither of them has played a game since the beginning of the month. They’ve both had plenty of time to prepare for the resumption of the 2023 MLS, which is their No. 1 focus.

The Sounders do stand a chance to get to the top of the table before the end of the regular season, but at the same time, there’s a danger that they might drop out of the playoff zone. That’s why you can be certain that these guys are going to take every single game in the remainder of the season very seriously.

It’s a similar story when it comes to Atlanta United. This team is seventh in the East with 35 points and a score difference of 42-39. “The Five Stripes” probably won’t be able to get ahold of the top spot in the conference. Instead, their motivation to keep on playing well is to stay in the playoff zone.
