Event Preview

The Houston Open has been staged on the PGA Tour since its inception in 1946. It will be played at the Memorial Park Golf Course, meaning that the field will cover a total of 7,432 yards at the par 70 event worth a staggering $9.9 million.

There is likely to be pressure on Scottie Scheffler this weekend, as the world number one’s form has dipped in recent weeks after failing to make the top ten in the last two events. However, his record at the course in Texas should be respected after finishing second on three occasions.

Min Woo Lee holds the tournament aggregate score record, and has been playing his way back into form excellently. His aggressive style of play will once again suit this course, and his previous win here makes him an obvious contender.

Brooks Koepka also looks like a star that is back to his best after finishing T18 at the Valspar Championship last weekend. Likely building to an even bigger performance down the line. Marco Penge could also be an outsider worth considering after finishing T4 in last weekend’s event.

Houston Open Picks

Scheffler could be vulnerable after some underwhelming displays. Therefore, at a big price, Gary Woodland could be a good play. The American showed his quality to take T14 at last weekend’s event, and he has finished in the top ten on two of his last three appearances at the Houston Open.
