What Does ‘SGP’ Mean in Sports Betting?

what-is-sgp-in-betting

In sports betting, SGP stands for Same Game Parlay.

It is a type of parlay bet that allows you to combine multiple different bets (called “legs“) from within a single game into one larger wager.

How a Same Game Parlay (SGP) Works

A parlay is a bet that combines two or more individual wagers. For a traditional parlay to win, all of the individual wagers must be correct.

A Same Game Parlay applies this same logic but to a single event. You can combine bets like the point spread, moneyline, total (Over/Under), and various player props from one game.

Just like a regular parlay, every leg of your SGP must win for the bet to cash. If even one leg loses, the entire SGP bet is lost.

Example of an SGP

Imagine you are betting on an NFL game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. Instead of placing three separate bets, you could combine them into an SGP:

  1. Leg 1: Kansas City Chiefs to win (Moneyline)
  2. Leg 2: The total score to be Over 50.5 points
  3. Leg 3: Patrick Mahomes to throw Over 2.5 touchdowns

For this SGP to win, the Chiefs must win the game, and the total score must be 51 or more, and Patrick Mahomes must throw at least three touchdowns. If all three of these things happen, the bet wins at much higher odds than any of the individual bets. However, if the Chiefs win 24-20 (Under 50.5 points) and Mahomes throws 3 TDs, the entire bet still loses because Leg 2 failed.

SGP vs. Traditional Parlay

  • Traditional Parlay: Combines bets from different games.
    • Example: Chiefs to win + Cowboys to win + Lions to win.
  • Same Game Parlay (SGP): Combines bets from only one game.
    • Example: Chiefs to win + Travis Kelce to score a touchdown + total points Over 50.5.
