There will be huge boxing action to look forward to in early February as one of the pound-for-pound greats in the world returns to action. Teofimo Lopez will make his first defense of the WBO and The Ring light welterweight titles in Las Vegas, after winning the gold in stunning fashion against Josh Taylor in New York in June.
The dominant fighter comes into the bout after suffering just one professional defeat during his career. That loss was suffered in shocking fashion in New York in November 2021, as Lopez was beaten by George Kambosos Jr when defending his WBA, WBO, IBF, and The Ring lightweight titles.

However, he will be widely expected to get the job done in Vegas, especially if he is able to reach the heights that saw him score a unanimous decision win against Vasily Lomachenko in October 2020 to win the WBA and WBO lightweight titles. Jamaine Ortiz isn’t a fighter that should be taken lightly though, as the American’s only professional defeat was suffered against Lomachenko in October 2022.
He has since bounced back from that first professional defeat after scoring a unanimous decision success against Antonio Moran in September 2023. But, he will need a career-best performance in Vegas if he is to stand any chance of upsetting the odds against Lopez.
