Event Preview

The battles on track in Formula 1 will continue this weekend, as the Mexican Grand Prix takes place at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. This race was first staged in 1962, and it has been staged at its current location since 2015. Drivers will complete 71 laps in this race, meaning a total race distance of 305.354km will be covered.

Max Verstappen is the most successful driver in the history of this race, as he has landed victories on four previous occasions. Red Bull is also tied with Lotus for the most race wins at the Mexican Grand Prix. Verstappen landed victory 12 months ago, as he finished over 15 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton.

The reigning world champion continued his excellent form by landing victory at the United States Grand Prix, but there was further evidence that the pack are closing in on Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton finished within two seconds of the Dutchman, and may have competed for the win had there been at least two more laps. However, the British driver was later disqualified, meaning Lando Norris finished his 100th Grand Prix in second.

Norris had been in the battle to win the race for a long time, but he wasn’t able to close the gap on Verstappen after being overtaken for the lead. Carlos Sainz was promoted to third following the disqualification of Hamilton. Sergio Perez would have been counting his blessings following Hamilton’s DQ, as that lifted the Mexican to fourth, and also extended his lead over the seven-time world champion to 39 points in the battle for second spot in the Drivers’ Championship.

Mexican Grand Prix Prediction

It is likely to be another close race in Mexico this weekend. However, a chance will be taken on Hamilton to land a first win of the season, as the Mercedes pace was clear for all to see in the United States last Sunday.
