Preview

Duke took their first defeat of the year on Thursday against Davidson. It came off the heels of a narrow 4-point victory against Columbia. In those two games, the Blue Devils shot just 3 of 23 (13%) from 3-point range. They need to perform much better from deep to have a chance of competing against Stanford and in ACC play. Until then, Duke will rely on their defense to keep the score low and themselves in the game.

Stanford opened the season ranked only #15, despite being dominant for much of the past decade. It was a result of the idea that the Cardinal would take a step back, an idea that has been far from materializing. They picked up a huge non-conference win over #9 Indiana, beating them 96-64. Star F Cameron Brink finished with 20 points, 17 rebounds, and 4 blocks in the win. They’ve dominated in all three games so far.

Prediction

Stanford has proved so far that ranking them lower than usual based on speculation was the wrong decision. They can keep hammering that point home by continuing to win with confidence. Duke has been flailing from beyond the arc lately, but has the potential to keep up with top teams when their shots are falling. Ultimately, I see the Cardinal facing little oppposition en route to another dominant victory here.

NCAAW Picks:

  • Stanford 87, Duke 68 ()
