Pick rationale

Analysis & key factors

  • South Carolina dropped their 2nd straight game on Saturday, losing 64-63 to LSU.
  • Ole Miss came up short at Missisissippi State, losing 83-71, and dropping to 19-7.
  • These two teams last met on February 6, in a game that South Carolina won 68-65.

Selection Sunday is less than a month away! Let’s look at the upcoming clash between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Ole Miss Rebels. Both of these teams have excellent records, but lack signature wins.

Preview

South Carolina’s scorching hot streak came to an end last week. After winning seven straight, including wins over Tennessee and Kentucky, the Gamecocks were pummeled by Auburn in a 40-point defeat. They failed to bounce back on their home court against LSU, losing 64-63. South Carolina currently projects as an 8-seed, but is hard to pinpoint. Their stellar 21-5 record is held back by sub-50 rankings in the metrics.

Ole Miss continues to struggle, having now lost four of their last five games. They’ve gone just 6-7 since their 13-0 start to the season. The Rebels are in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament if they can’t turn things around. They currently project as one of the last few teams in the field, lacking signature wins to keep them afloat. That makes games like this one against South Carolina absolutely crucial for Ole Miss.

Prediction

This matchup features two intriguing SEC teams. They both have excellent records, and are competing in one of the best conferences. That being said, they played terrible non-conference opposition, and rank outside the top-50 in most metrics. This game is a total toss-up, which makes me favor the home team.

NCAAB Picks:

  • Ole Miss 79, South Carolina 75 )
