Seven periods of NHL action was played out, with the game eventually finishing just before 2:00 AM ET. The decisive moment finally came with just 12.7 seconds remaining of the fourth overtime period, as Matthew Tkachuk found the net to give the Panthers a dramatic winner.
Credit must be given to both teams, as they battled intensively throughout the near six-hour clash. It would have seemed a long time ago by its conclusion, but the Hurricanes had taken the lead in the opening period. But, the Panthers struck back with two efforts in the second.
