Event Preview
F1 action continues at the end of May, as the Canadian Grand Prix is staged in Montreal. Drivers will complete a total distance of 305.270 km, which is made up by 70 laps. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are the two most dominant drivers in race history, with each winning on seven occasions.
The 2026 season has been all about the emergence of Kimi Antonelli, as the Italian teenager has stormed to the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings after winning each of the last three races. Furthermore, the Mercedes driver is yet to finish outside of the first two.
Antonelli’s exceptional performances are putting pressure on George Russell, who was widely expected to win the championship in 2026. The Brit has fallen 20 points behind his teammate after finishing fourth in the last two rounds.
Miami represented a huge step in the right direction for McLaren, with Lando Norris finishing second and Oscar Piastri taking third. It was the second consecutive podium finish for Piastri.
However, it was a frustrating weekend for Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc picking up a 20-second time penalty which dropped him to eighth. Lewis Hamilton suffered first lap damage, impacting his race, which ended in sixth.
Max Verstappen also endured a challenging first lap, but the Dutchman drove excellently on aging hard tires to finish fifth. Franco Colapinto was one of the exceptional performers in Miami, claiming a season-best seventh-place finish.
