Bing Crosby Stakes: Betting Preview

One of the most important races on the summer calendar at Del Mar is set for this Saturday, as the G1 Bing Crosby Stakes headlines the card. A talented field of sprinters will compete over six furlongs on the dirt in the hope of securing their berth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint later this season.

Bob Baffert will be chasing a record-setting win on Saturday, and his chances are led by Cornucopian. The Into Mischief colt is a proven operator in graded company, winning the G3 San Carlos and G3 Aristides in 2026. His only poor showing came when finishing fifth in the G1 Churchill Downs Stakes.

Maximum Bourbon is expected to be one of the main dangers, with Philip D’Amato saddling two runners on Saturday. The four-year-old has won three from four starts this season, and looks hugely progressive following an excellent win in the St. Matthews Overnight Stakes. One to watch.

Likable six-year-old Dr. Venkman is likely finished improving, but the Mark Glatt runner holds a strong chance on his return to Del Mar after winning four of his six career starts at the track. Likely needed his return run when sixth in the G3 Bango, and was a close third over course and distance at Del Mar in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

For All Mankind and Gold Sweep will have to show huge improvement to get involved this weekend based on the ratings. Stronghold could be an interesting alternative for the D’Amato yard having won the G3 Triple Bend last month. However, this will be a different proposition, as he drops back down to six furlongs for the first time since his debut.

Bing Crosby Stakes Picks

Stronghold and Dr. Venkman should ensure that this is a tough race for Cornucopian, but the Baffert horse looks better suited to running over six furlongs and should be capable of getting the job done at Del Mar this Saturday.
