It’s Will Smith’s World Series and We’re Just Living In It

By · Updated 7 hours ago
  • The Dodgers won Game 7 of the World Series, 5-4, in the 11th inning, earning back-to-back titles.
  • Catcher Will Smith had a go-ahead home run in the top of the 11th that gave the Dodgers the win.
  • This marked the 6th consecutive World Series in which a player named “Will Smith” was victorious.
  • The odds are out for the chances that Will Smith continues this incredible World Series streak in 2026.

A Will Smith World Series Streak for the Ages

One of the most interesting streaks in today’s sports world continued when the Dodgers won the World Series in Game 7. Their own catcher, Will Smith, hit a key home run in extra innings to earn his third title (2020, 2024, 2025). Meanwhile, another Will Smith also earned a trio of titles spanning from 2021-2023, while serving as a relief pitcher for the Braves, Astros, and Rangers.

Will Smith’s World Series-Winning Home Run

Though the Will Smith streak had already stretched for five seasons prior to the most recent World Series, no championship was greater impacted by Will Smith than this one. As Game 7 reached the 11th inning and approached an all-time MLB record, Smith crushed a go-ahead Home Run that put the Dodgers on top by a score of 5-4, eventually winning them the game and series.

A Magic Slap?

Fans of media and pop culture would recognize the name Will Smith from beyond just the sports world. While actor Will Smith hasn’t personally won any World Series titles, an athlete sharing his name has won every single World Series since he infamously slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscar’s. That being said, Will Smith had already claimed two of the six titles in the streak by then.

2026 Will Smith World Series Odds

There are currently two Will Smiths in the MLB, and none in notable positions in college baseball or the minors. That means that streak’s odds rest on the shoulders of those two players, the same two that are responsible for all six titles in the current streak.

Dodgers catcher Will Smith signed a 10-year contract back in 2023, cementing him on the Dodgers for the foreseeable future. As the back-to-back World Series champions, Los Angeles will once again enter the offseason as favorites to win it all next season.

Meanwhile, pitcher Will Smith, who won the World Series on three different teams from 2021-2023 is currently a free agent. At 36 years old, he is officially “retired” after missing the 2025 season, but he may still return as a good luck charm in the future.
