Match Preview

This showdown in the quarterfinals appears to be one of the most competitive, with both Jamaica and Guatemala holding realistic chances of reaching the semi-final stage. Jamaica were slightly unfortunate to have finished second in Group A, as they finished below the United States on goal difference.

They held the USA in their opening match, before winning back-to-back victories against Trinidad & Tobago and Saint Kitts and Nevis to round off their campaign. Jamaica landed a 5-0 win in their most recent match against the latter, with Jonathan Bernard, Daniel Johnson, and Cory Burke all finding the back of the net in Santa Clara.

Guatemala potentially caused one of the biggest upsets in the group stage, as they finished top of Group D. They were excellent throughout the opening round, as they landed victories over Cuba and Guadeloupe. Meanwhile, their draw against Canada ensured that they were in a healthy position to top the standings heading into matchday three.

Guatemala still needed to hold their nerve in their final match, as they secured a 3-2 win over Guadeloupe to ensure their passage through to the next stage. Rubio Rubin was excellent in that final Group D match, as he scored a goal in each half to aid his team’s chances of victory.

Jamaica has an excellent record in this fixture, as they have won ten of the 16 previous encounters. That includes victories in six of the previous seven. That could be a challenging trend to overlook this weekend, and we expect them to secure a place in the final four.
