It would be fair to say that neither Crystal Palace nor Brighton come into this latest round of matches in the best form. The Seagulls continue to sit on the fringes of the European positions, but they have landed just a single victory in their last five matches. However, a run of wins would see them put pressure on the two sides sitting directly above them.

Crystal Palace will still be nervously looking over their shoulders at this stage, as they are far from safe in the battle to avoid the drop. The Eagles have suffered two defeats in their last three. Meanwhile, they rank among the lowest scorers in the competition at this stage after netting just 22 goals so far this term.

There has been little to separate these sides based on the recent meetings in the Premier League. Six of the last seven clashes have ended in 1-1 draws, which includes the clash on December 21. That run means that Brighton are unbeaten in their last five against their rivals, but their 1-0 win in 2019 remains their only home success since a 3-1 win in December 2018.

Palace have enjoyed their recent trips to the Amex, winning two of the last four meetings between the sides. That includes a 2-1 win on the road in February 2021. Brighton ended a three-game winless sequence at home against Palace last season, but they haven’t achieved back-to-back home wins against the Eagles since 1988-89.
