Huge questions are beginning to be asked of Eddie Howe, as Newcastle have slipped down the Premier League standings at an alarming rate. The Magpies have now lost their last four, and they could kick off the weekend in the bottom half of the standings. The performance levels will certainly need to improve if they are to make a charge for a European finish in the second half of the season.

Luton will be the visitors to St. James’ Park this weekend, as the Hatters desperately look to put together a run of victories in order to enhance their survival prospects. They come into this match with a game in hand over their rivals, but they could potentially sit outside the bottom three before this visit to Newcastle.

Luton landed a famous win in the previous clash between these sides in December, landing a 1-0 win to stun Howe’s Newcastle. However, that was the first meeting of any description between the sides since the Toon landed a 3-1 home success in the FA Cup third round in January 2018.

However, that defeat is the only loss that Luton have suffered in their last five matches against Newcastle across all competitions. But, their record at St. James’ Park would be a concern. Luton are without an away victory against the Magpies since landing a 2-0 win in the FA Cup in February 1973. Since that win, they have failed to land success at St. James’ Park in 14 visits.
