Australia has managed to hold on to the Ashes this summer, as the visitors held on to a draw in the fourth test. The tie means that England are now unable to regain the Ashes, much to the frustration of the home fans, who saw almost the entirety of days four and five washed out at Old Trafford due to rain. England had been in a dominant position to secure victory after scoring 592 in their first innings.

However, they were never given the time on the field to take the remaining five wickets that they required to set up a grandstand finish in the fifth test. Pat Cummins welcomed the rain, as he admitted that an Australian victory in the fourth test was exceptionally unlikely following a dominant England performance with the bat.

Frustrations were evidentially high within the England ranks on Sunday, as the whole day was washed away due to the typical Manchester rainy weather. The decision from Ben Stokes to bowl after winning the toss was a masterstroke, as the hosts scored a stunning 592 in record time.
