Game Preview
Chicago lost badly to the Giants on Thursday, allowing 16 runs in the defeat. It was the second time in the series they allowed 12 or more runs, creating some major concerns about their pitching. Starter Lance Lynn gave up 8 earned runs in 4.1 IP, now posting a 9.00 ERA on the year. Relievers Jose Ruiz, Gregory Santos, and Hanser Alberto allowed 8 more runs, posting ERAs of 22.09, 7.36, and 21.60 respectively.

The Pirates completed a 3-game sweep of the Red Sox in Boston, improving to 4-2 on the year. It’s been a surprisingly strong start for Pittsburgh, as they aim to snap an 8-year playoff drought this season. They played well on the road so far, and now will need to prove they’re equally capable at home. The White Sox may be the toughest team they’ve faced so far, but their schedule will only continue to get more difficult.

Prediction
I’m tempted to pick the Pirates here because of how well they’ve been playing so far this season. Coupled with home field advantage, they should certainly make this series competitive. Despite that, I see them being at a disadvantage in this game against the White Sox. Chicago has Lucas Giolito (3.60 ERA) on the mound, while the Pirates have Rich Hill (5.40). If the White Sox bullpen can bounce back, they should win.
