They remain there, despite their two recent losses, but now hold just a 1-game cushion over the Guardians. Minnesota has had a tough schedule as of late, but will now get to face teams under .500 in 13 of their next 16 games.
The Red Sox continue their extremely streaky play this season. After opening the season with a 10-9 loss against the Orioles, they’ve won 2 in a row, lost 3 straight, won 3, lost 4, won 3, and now finally lost again to the Angels. Their tendency to win or lose in bursts indicates Boston may have a few more losses ahead of them, so they’ll aim to break that streak in this series and try to climb out of last place in the AL East.
Prediction
The Red Sox have home field advantage in this game, which provides them with a chance of winning. That being said, they are facing a couple of mismatches in this game. Not only does their current pattern indicate a loss here, but Boston will be starting a collapsing Chris Sale (11.25 ERA) against a dominant Sonny Gray (0.53 ERA). The Twins couldn’t ask for a better pitching matchup, and I see them winning here.
