Pick rationale

Analysis & key factors

  • The Defenders took down the Renegades, 28-26, in OT.

  • This will be the very first matchup between these two teams this season.

The Defenders (8-1) and the Brahmas (3-6) face off in a key XFL matchup. While DC has already locked down their division’s #1 spot, San Antonio is hanging on by a thread, and aiming to sneak into the playoffs.

Game Preview

DC survived against the Renegades on Sunday, claiming an OT win and improving to 8-1 on the season. The Defenders led 26-9 entering the 4th quarter, before allowing Arlington to score 17 unanswered points and force overtime. DC managed to get the win still, but their late-game collapse is something to work on moving forward. They can begin to work on that this week, with their main focus on the upcoming playoffs.

The Brahmas got an absolutely crucial 2-point win against the Guardians last week. Their win, coupled with the Renegades’ OT loss, allowed San Antonio to stay alive in the playoff race entering the regular season’s final week. They’ve still got quite a bit of work to do to make it. The Brahmas will need both a win in this game and another Renegades loss to have a shot at the tiebreaker. This game is another do-or-die.

Picks

The Defenders have been the much better team of the two this season, currently sitting 5 games ahead at 8-1, compared to the Brahmas at 3-6. If this matchup had taken place midseason, I may have confidently picked DC to win. That being said, it’s a bit more complicated here. While the Defenders are locked into their division’s top spot, the Brahmas have their entire season on the line. I see them winning it at home.
