New York had their 4-game winning streak snapped by the Mariners on Wednesday, failing to score a run. They continue to be very streaky, trading between win and loss streaks. The Yankees have gone 19-9 since May 1, after starting the year 15-15. Prior to being shut out, the offense scored 10 runs in 3 straight games. They’ll need to continue that production to support their pitching staff enough to win this series.

The Dodgers have cooled off a bit, after a stretch of going 14-2 earlier in the month. Since then, they’ve gone 7-8, losing some winnable games. They also played some tough teams in that span, and will be able to take advantage of a softer upcoming schedule following this series against the Yankees. Los Angeles had produced well on offense all season, but has seen some uncharacteristically poor pitching outings.

Prediction

Both of these teams are capable of producing on offense and shutting down the opposition on the mound. This series could go either way, though the Dodgers have a notable advantage at home, with the Yankees traveling 2,500 miles to get to Los Angeles. New York will have the recently recovered Luis Severino (1.59 ERA) on the mound, who should pose a challenge to Clayton Kershaw (3.32 ERA). I like the Dodgers here.
