The San Jose Earthquakes are trailing by two points behind St. Louis City, but we might see them leapfrog them this weekend if they win. They’ve got every right to hope for a win on June 24 for several reasons. First of all, they’re great at home. In California, they’re 6-3-0, which makes them the only Western Conference team without a single loss at home.

Further, St. Louis City is horrible on the road. Although the new MLS franchise is 3-1-4 in away games, Gary Smith’s boys are without a win on the road since March. Plus, they’re 0-1-4 in their last four away matches in the MLS.

Another reason why MLS odds are going against St. Louis City is that three of their most expensive players are injured – Joao Klauss, Joakim Nilsson, and Eduard Lowen.

The Earthquakes got hammered by FC Dallas 4-1 earlier this week, meaning that they’re probably very motivated to bounce back. Luckily for them, they’re taking on the banged-up St. Louis City at home. That said, anything but an easy win for the hosts would be a surprise.
