MLS Preview: Los Angeles FC vs. St. Louis City Prediction, Odds, and Picks (Jul 12)

Los Angeles FC vs. St. Louis City is arguably the biggest matchup in the MLS this week. Taking place at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, this is a duel between two teams from the top 3 in the Western Conference. LAFC – the reigning champion – hasn’t been great lately, but betting odds suggest Steve Cherundolo’s boys will put an end to their losing streak on Wednesday evening.

“The Black and Gold” are winless in the last four MLS rounds, with three losses and one draw. One of the reasons for that is that a couple of their key men have been out of the squad. Defender Aaron Long is out on international duty, while his colleagues from LAFC’s defensive department, Sergi Palencia and Jesus Murillo, are injured. This explains why LAFC has conceded a total of eight goals in the last four rounds of the 2023 MLS.

Another reason why the MLS Cup winners haven’t been great since the start of the summer is that their schedule has been somewhat difficult. The good news is that the Leagues Cup break is on the horizon, but before the start of that tournament, they need to play against St. Louis City and Minnesota United.

On paper, Cherundolo’s men look set to win both of those games, but we call for caution, especially for the St. Louis City game. The thing is that the visitors from Missouri have been fantastic in the attack this whole season, scoring 40 goals in 21 games.

The last time LAFC won a game in the MLS, they played on their turf. Playing at BMO Stadium should give them a slight edge on Wednesday, although this isn’t going to be an easy game for them. We’re almost 100% certain St. Louis City will fight back, possibly scoring a goal or two. Nevertheless, we do have faith in the reigning champions.
