Pep Guardiola’s Man City will be chasing a fourth straight Premier League title this season. They will kick off their campaign in the opening game of the new season on Friday, as they travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley. City will be looking for a response after suffering defeat in the Community Shield on Sunday against Arsenal.

Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol are both in line to make their competitive debuts for City on Friday, as last season’s treble winners kick off their first campaign without Ilkay Gundogan since 2015-16. However, the champions will be confident of starting the season with a win after landing a massive 6-0 win over Burnley in the FA Cup last season.

There aren’t many tougher matches to start the new season for newly promoted Burnley. The Clarets will be targeting Premier League survival this term after gaining a return to the top-flight at the first time of asking as champions of the second tier last term. Vincent Kompany is unlikely to change his approach, as the emphasis will be put on young players, with a possession-based style preferred.

Former City goalkeeper James Trafford is likely to make his debut at Turf Moor on Friday, while Michael Obafemi and Jordan Beyer will also likely be handed starts. The Clarets will be looking to cause a shock result on the opening day, but they have won just once in their last 20 matches against City.
