Match Preview

England will be competing at the quarterfinal stage of the Women’s World Cup for the sixth time in their history. They have progressed from each of their previous two appearances at this stage of the competition, but they will be attempting to reach the final for the first time. England will need to improve their record in the knockout stage, as they have failed to win their last three in regular time.

The latest of those came in the round of 16, as the Lionesses played out a goalless draw against Nigeria, before landing their spot in this stage of the competition from the penalty spot. However, England was 2-1 winners in their only previous World Cup showdown with Colombia in 2015.

Colombia has been one of the standout nations at the competition this summer, as they exceeded all expectations to finish above Germany in the opening stage. This summer they have won three from four matches, which means that 75% of their wins at the Women’s World Cup have been recorded during this edition of the tournament.

It is the first time in history that Colombia have reached the last eight at the Women’s World Cup. They will also be looking to make history on Saturday by becoming only the second side from South America to reach the final four at the competition. Brazil was the only previous nation to achieve that feat, having reached the semi-finals in 1999 and 2007.

England vs Colombia Prediction

England will be without Lauren James for this showdown, which looks set to be a huge miss given their issues in the final third against Nigeria. We feel as though Colombia are massively overpriced in the betting, and it is worth taking a chance on the South American nation.
