Sweden are no stranger to the third-place playoff, as they have competed in this match in two of the previous three editions. However, they have finished third on both occasions, and have finished the competition in the same position on three occasions since 1991.

The Swedes were involved in a semi-final thriller against Spain on Tuesday, with all three goals being scored in the final ten minutes. After going behind, Sweden would have thought that they were heading to extra time after netting the equalizer with two minutes remaining. However, Spain snatched the victory just a minute later.
