Event Preview

There will be extra attention on the European Tour this weekend, as the start of the Ryder Cup edges ever closer. With no action on the PGA Tour this weekend, the European Masters is the standout men’s event on the calendar this week. This event has been staged since 1923, with the par-70 course seeing the players in action in Switzerland.

The event was formally known as the Swiss Open, before it was later renamed in 1983. It became the first event in Europe to be co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour in 2009. Colin Montgomerie holds the record aggregate score in the event, while Jerry Anderson holds the to par record. Thriston Lawrence was the shock winner of the European Masters in 2022.

Matt Fitzpatrick appears to be a standout selection at the prices this weekend, as the Englishman looks for a third victory in the event. His last win was secured in 2018, as he held on to land victory following a playoff. Interestingly, a playoff has been required in five of the previous six editions of the event.

Rasmus Hojgaard is another former winner worth consideration this weekend, as the Danish star won by a shot back in 2021. However, a response will be needed after he finished back in a tie for 39^th at the Czech Masters last weekend. But, there would be little surprise to see him bounce back. His compatriot Nicolai Hojgaard also isn’t without a chance this weekend.

European Masters Prediction

At the prices, we will try and take on Fitzpatrick this weekend. Matt Wallace makes a great appeal, as the Englishman comes into the weekend in excellent form after finishing second at the Czech Masters last weekend. He also has previous experience in the European Masters after finishing second following a playoff 12 months ago.
